Nestor Batalon

I was born in the Philippines and raised in Ewa Plantation Housing – Graduated from Campbell High School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii - joined the U.S. Army in June 1977, and honorably discharged from Military Service in June 1981. I attended Chaminade University of Honolulu and completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in December 1987. Subsequently, accepted various Counseling positions including Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling; Substance Abuse Treatment; Family Counseling; and Mental Health Case management in Hawaii’s Private and Public sector. In 1990, I enrolled in Graduate School and received my Master of Social Work (MSW) in June 1993 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (U.H.). While pursuing graduate degree, I was employed by the Social Science Research Institute at Manoa in which I was part of a team of students and faculty researchers conducting Gang Studies in Hawaii. After receiving my MSW, I accepted a position with the Office of Youth Services (OYS) as a Program Specialist V. The contract ended 6-months later so I accepted a Social Worker position with the State of Hawaii Department of Health. Left DOH 3-years later, and relocated to Washington State where I obtained employment as a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor at an Adolescent  Treatment Program funded by KCDASA (King County Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse). Returned to Hawaii in December of 1998 to accept a Clinical Therapist position under a Felix Decree Project with the State of Hawaii Department of Health. After 6-years of employment with the Felix Decree Project, accepted a Clinical Director position with Hina Mauka in Kauai - March 2004. As Clinical Director, my previous experiences and analysis of the need to have a working knowledge of the law to be an effective Clinician, was resoundingly reinforced so I decided to obtain online legal education which I completed during my employment as a Clinical Psychotherapist with my current employer (Kalihi Palama Health Center / Behavioral Health Department). In 2015, I founded my own company, Integrated Counseling and Psychotherapy LLC to provide Mental/Behavioral health services in the Ewa Beach area and neighboring cities. The company provides Mental Health Evaluation, Treatment, and Forensic Case Management designed to empower clientele and strengthen their ability for self-advocacy. We provide referrals and/or assistance with Pro Se Representation as they deal and interact with legal and other social institutions about issues such as divorces, immigration issues, landlord tenant disputes, employment disputes, and other civil law matters that may cause them to decompensate and reduce their chances for good prognosis in therapy.

My primary language is English, but I speak, read, and write 3-major Filipino dialects (Ilocano, Tagalog and Visayan). Meetings and clinical sessions may be conducted in the preceding Filipino dialects if needed.

When I am not working and have free time, I love to fish and be with my beautiful family.
